Auxiliary Police Unit


Are you interested in becoming a Fairfield Police Auxiliary Officer ?

Membership in this unit will be open to Fairfield residents only, age 18 and above with clean driving records and no history of criminal arrests.

The Auxiliary Police Unit is used to supplement the duties of the Police Department. This non-armed unit will assist in traffic direction, crowd control and basic patrol functions under the supervision of a regular Police Officer.

Auxiliary Officers are required to attend a 40-hour training course given at the Essex County Police Academy. The course is given in the evening hours, 2 nights per week. Officers will also receive training in CPR, first aid, incident command, traffic control, criminal law, preservation of evidence, search and seizure, crowd control, patrol techniques and hazardous materials.

Upon certification, the Auxiliary Officer will be required to serve at least six (6) hours per month of duty time.
